Blue Seafood Guide KYOTO

Kyoto Prefecture and Sailors for the Sea Japan have a comprehensive cooperation agreement. As an initiative within this framework, the BSG Kyoto edition was published in November 2024.

Collaboration with the prefectural government has made it possible to provide detailed assessments using local data that are not visible in materials published by the Fisheries Agency.

The BSG Kyoto Edition introduces sustainable seafood from Kyoto Prefecture that have passed the BSG's selection criteria.

One example of resource management that Kyoto Prefecture is involved in is the snow crab bottom trawl fishery. The fishing season and Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for male and female snow crab are set separately, and the fishery has been recognised as Blue Seafood in recognition of its sustainability.

Kyoto, the historical and cultural capital of Japan. Kyoto Prefecture faces the Sea of Japan and is home to diverse landscapes and fishing grounds, including Wakasa Bay. In order to pass on the blessings of this beautiful sea and its beautiful culture to the next generation, let’s choose the sustainable seafood recommended by the BSG Kyoto Edition as a priority and enjoy it in a delicious, fun and environmentally friendly way.
